Introducing: Adam Riches

Written by Oliver Squirrell

Adam Riches is an emerging British painter and draughtsman who first came to our attention in 2015 when we shared an office/studio space together! Immediately we were struck by the energy of his adrenaline-provoking oil portraits; deep, dark and disturbing.

Primarily monochromatic, his characteristically stylised portraits and figurative works are sensitive responses to the human condition, ranging from furious expressive moments to poignant, melancholy reflections.

In the last few years Adam has also had great success with his Pen works, so much so that combined with the oil works he has grown an incredible following on Instagram to almost 290,000 individuals and attracted the attention of Nadia Arnold, who now formally represents Adam.

Sharing a working space with Adam also gave us an insight into his artistic process. He works quickly, using his instinct to spontaneously move the brush or pen as the figures gradually reveal themselves to him.
